After a lot of hard work, SMIRK Entertainment held a private screening of their first full length independent feature film, The Incubus. The screening took place at Cinema Paradiso, home to the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival, and to the delight of the cast, crew and several hundred friends, family members and entertainment insiders. The screening was a total success!!!!!

The night started out with the arrival of invited guests receiving a copy of The Incubus soundtrack, which is available on iTunes and Amazon.com and is an incredibly awesome display of singing and songwriting, with the songs being sung by the stars of the movie. Next came the arrival of the cast, in an incredibly large stretch limo, red carpet and photo ops galore. Once inside, the audience was treated to a mini concert, where Shayne Leighton, Alexandra Santanna and Lexi Layne performed songs from the soundtrack and which are sure to be radio hits once the movie gets distribution. The concert was awesome, after which executive producer Marcie Gorman and Writer/Star of the film Shayne Leighton all said described the creation process of the movie and thanked everyone for coming.

Then came the screening... it was awesome! Everyone in the cast was there, and the movie was intriguing, exciting and full of great acting and special effects. Following the screening there were cast introductions and a short question and answer session. A totally wonderful experience. Then to the outside tents where invitees were able to take pictures, eat, and mingle with the cast of The Incubus. Look forward to seeing this terrific movie sometime in the near future.

Smirk Entertainment is seeking distribution at the time of this writing, and I think the movie will get snapped up quickly, as the story is terrific, and the cast is young and very good looking. Check out the website at www.theincubusfilm.com and check it out when it gets to theaters.

Remember THE INCUBUS IS COMING and you do not want to miss it! And when you see the great looking guy running through the woods right before he dies (that’s me)... enjoy!!!

Photography: Patty Daniels of Town and Country Studios, and Drew Albright

To learn more about The Incubus film, visit:
The Official Website
The Official Facebook Fan Page
The Official Incubus Twitter
The Official Incubus Youtube
The Official Incubus Street Team

Get The Incubus Official Soundtrack on:
iTunes
Amazon.com

To read Jimmy Star’s last article on the making of The Incubus film,
visit:
“The Incubus Is Coming”, Beyond Elite Magazine Fall 2009

Dr. Jimmy Star is The Creative Director of Beyond Elite Magazine,The Celebrity Renaissance Man and Fashion, Entertainment and Media Mogul of the Jimmy Star Label, The World of Jimmy Star fashion and entertainment empire, The World of Jimmy Star Publications media company, and a Performance Specialist at the Institute for Reality Studies.
The Everyman Critic by Dr Drew Albright - Beyond Elite Magazine - 402

In these days when everything just everything is reduced to a feedback and rating system, whether its Facebook’s “likes” or eBay’s “feedback”, or the hounding and desperate phone calls from the auto dealer telling you they sent their service survey in the mail and please, please, please fill it out, it seems we have all been told “The customer is right” so much that we really get into believing we are The Critic and the world must just please us, because we say so, or heads should roll.

And I’m thinking that this kind of attitude carries over into everything, including how we view the arts and entertainment. Have we become so jaded, so demanding, so that the old line of “Dance for me” and “Entertain me” really are how we see things? And are our lives just so pathetic that we long for escapism and fantasy highs and if we don’t get it delivered just how we want it, we boo? Are we all just so mysteriously moody that nothing is ever truly good enough or gives us that all time good feeling we so long for?

I say, yes.

And I think a key thing to consider in all of this is the difference between being active or passive in your own life. Active thinkers know it is their job to tend to themselves and fulfill themselves, and they actively create with this sane and sober focus to be safe, be well, and live long. Active thinkers view the arts and entertainment as an opportunity to learn, and opportunity to be exposed to a new view, and opportunity to be informed of a new set of ideas. There is a joy to discovery and experience, whatever the end judgment of that experience, and they are able to appreciate the creation process of others as they are creators themselves and are familiar with the steps involved.

To the contrary, passive thinkers do not know it is their job to tend to their own needs and wants. It’s more of a mystery how things do or do not get done or come to pass, or how they are or are not happy. Secretly they wish for the day when all will be set right, (how they see right), and then they are hoping they will feel better, the kind of supersonic ultimate supreme best actually, but there is not much that they can do about it, other than to tell you, “No, that didn’t do the trick,” and wait for the big day to come.

So in the passive way of thinking, everything gets compared to some unknown super-high, super state of being that is hoped for. Nothing is evaluated on its face, nothing is critiqued based on what is known, for everything is critiqued on what is Not known. So while a movie may have a well-constructed plot, be well cast and well-acted, have a lovely score, showcase terrific sets and wardrobe, and have cost millions of dollars, hundreds of people, and over a year to create, “Eh, it just didn’t do it for me” might well be the typical passive response because when watching it, fireworks did not go off in their head.

Along with this, I hear all the time phrases like, “I could do that,” “I could make that,” always along with “And I would do it much better,” but what is great about those phrases is that they never seem to get put to the test! This is the curse of the Everyman Critic whereby often times the unskilled and uninformed are critiquing and evaluating the skilled and professional.

So in conclusion, we are all critical, in that by virtue of being alive we are all making judgments all the time whether we know it or not. The key is to know what your judgments, your critiques are based on. Are they based on knowledge that you have acquired, and your actively decided values, or are they based on a fairly land that you aspire to but have never reached?

Dr. Drew Albright is the Managing Editor for Beyond Elite Magazine, an Intellectual Overseer who is the Manager of Operations for The World of Jimmy Star empire, Dean of Academic Studies at the Institute for Reality Studies, President of the International Realist Thinking and Arts Renaissance, and a Realist.
